How to Play Kakuro

Kakuro is a number puzzle — often called a “mathematical crossword.”
Your goal is to fill every white cell with digits from 1 to 9 so that all clues are satisfied.

Basic Rules

  • Each horizontal or vertical group of cells (a run) must add up to the clue number shown in the black cell.
  • No digit can be repeated within the same run.

Reading the Clue Cells

Black cells are split diagonally into two parts:

  • The top-right number is the sum of the cells going to the right
  • The bottom-left number is the sum of the cells going downward

What is Kakuro?

Kakuro is a logic puzzle where you fill in numbers so that each group of cells adds up to a specific sum, without repeating digits. It combines elements of math and logic similar to Sudoku.

Kakuro can be more challenging because it requires both logical deduction and number combinations. Instead of placing numbers freely, you must match exact sums.

You can only use digits from 1 to 9, and each number can only appear once in each run (group of connected cells).

Yes. Larger grids and more complex sums increase the difficulty. Daily puzzles may also vary in challenge.

Classic generates a new puzzle every time.
Daily gives everyone the same puzzle for the selected date.
Every day, a brand-new Kakuro puzzle becomes available in Daily Mode.
You can play today’s puzzle or any previous date — but future dates are locked.
Daily puzzles are the same for all players on the same date, so you can compare your score and time on the Daily Leaderboard.

About Kakuro

Kakuro is a classic number puzzle that blends logic and arithmetic. Often compared to a crossword puzzle, each clue gives a target sum, and your task is to figure out which combination of digits fits — without repeating numbers.

Unlike Sudoku, Kakuro requires you to think in terms of number combinations. For example, a clue of 16 across two cells can only be filled with specific pairs like 7 and 9 or 8 and 8 — but since duplicates are not allowed, only valid unique combinations are accepted.

This makes Kakuro a great brain exercise, improving both logical thinking and mental math skills.

On this page, you can:

  • Play classic Kakuro puzzles in different sizes
  • Try the daily challenge with the same puzzle as other players
  • Track your best times on the leaderboard
  • Use hints and validation tools to improve your solving skills

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced puzzle solver, Kakuro offers a rewarding and engaging challenge every time you play.
